It’s been a while (2 months, but feels like 2-years!) since I last wrote an article dedicated to prompting, or “prompt engineering”, as it’s frequently called.

Since then, GPT-4 came out and pushed the boundaries of what’s possible even further with Large Language Models (LLMs).

Prompt engineering has been called the “most important job skill of this century” and also, “programming in prose”, which I think is quite poetic.

I, for one, believe it is an essential skill for individuals and businesses to master, and will be highly relevant for the foreseeable future.

In this week’s newsletter, I do a deep dive on how to get the most from prompting ChatGPT, including a new Chain of Thought (CoT) “magic phrase” I discovered whilst doing the research for this post that makes ChatGPT even more accurate and less prone to hallucinations.

If you’ve been unimpressed by what GPT-3.5 and maybe even GPT-4 can do so far, it’s probably because you are giving it “single-line” prompts, that miss the context and leaves the model wide open to hallucinations.

We all now live in the Age of AI

Large Language Models (LLMs) like that offered by OpenAI, Anthropic, Cohere, Google, Meta and many others, offer huge productivity gains for the knowledgable early adopters, and subtle weaknesses ready to make a fool of the ignorant.

Just like there were laggards who took their time adopting websites, social media, smartphones and other, now, ubiquitous tech into their businesses, there will also be those who fail to incorporate AI into their workflows, even though it offers unrivalled productivity gains to businesses and individuals alike.

The classic technology adoption curve. LLMs have already “crossed the chasm” into the mainstream market, next stop, conquering the “conservatives”. It won’t be long.

My advice is, don’t be a laggard with respect to AI.

AI is on an exponential improvement curve.

ChatGPT went from completely unknown to crossing the chasm into the early mainstream market within weeks.

It’s proved to be the ultimate product market fit.
